Short question:
What is the best/alternative methods of storing cabbage raw and how long will it last.
We have a cold cellar (temperature depends on outside) but we store apples etc there.
How long (roughly) would raw cabbage last (before we have to make sauerkraut).

I hit upon this site while investigating brining for a Thanksgiving turkey (Canadian, Oct 13)

My parents being from German descent were quite interested. There was just a big sale on cabbages at a new store ($0.49 and it's bigger than my head). So we were wondering how long we can store the cabbage till we get all the equipment ready etc.
