Grandma’s Frank’s kraut and Spareribs

3 lbs pork spareribs

1 32 oz jar Frank's Kraut

1 med. head cabbage thinly shredded

1 med. onion thinly sliced

2 Tblsp brown sugar

4 cups water

1 can chicken broth

1 can/bottle beer with fizz removed, flattened

4 cloves crushed and minced garlic

1 pinch caraway seed


1Wash ribs and smear with garlic and pepper. Brown in oven and set aside.

2Place Frank's Kraut, onion, caraway seed,remaining garlic, brown sugar and cabbage in bottom of roaster.

3Pour in beer, water, chicken broth and then pepper to taste. Then stir.

4Bake covered at 375 degrees for 4 hours. Check at 2 hours to see if liquid is needed.

5Place ribs over Frank's Kraut and cook for 1 hour at 325. Add liquid if needed.

6Remove lid and brown for 15 to 20 minutes.
