Sarma Hot Dish

8 slices bacon, sauteed and crumbled

1-1/2 lb. ground beef or ham, browned and crumbed

1 medium onion, diced

1 clove garlic, minced

Salt and pepper

1 small head cabbage, coarsely chopped

1 cup uncooked long grain rice

2 cups Frank's Kraut with juice

1 qt. (32 oz.) tomato juice or V-8 juice

2 cans tomato soup, undiluted


1Saute bacon, drain and crumble. Remove from pan and set aside. Add and saute until browned: beef or ham onion

2dd and mix well: rice bacon Grease a large cassereole with butter. Line casserole bottom with 1/2" chopped cabbage.

3Spread meat on top of the cabbage. Layer meat with the Frank's Kraut. Continue layering with remaining ingredients.

4Mix tomato juice and tomato soup together and pour over casserole.

5Cover and bake at 350 degrees F., for 2 to 2-1/2 hours. During the baking time, check to see if there is enough liquid for the rice to absorb as it cooks. If there is excess liquid, remove and discard.
