GrossMutter Blaschke's Sweet Kraut
Servings: 4

Submitted by David Blaschke SR., Frisco, TX

For each 14.5 ounce can of Sauerkraut you will need:
1 Tablespoon chopped onion
1 Tablespoon oil (or bacon grease)
1 Tablespoon flour
Sweetner (see below)
Option = caraway seed

  1. 1) Chop onion fine & fry in oil until beginning to brown.

  2. 2) Cook kraut, covered, over low heat.

  3. 3) Sift flour into onion & oil, continuing to brown.

  4. 4) When paste is light brown, begin to stir in hot juice from kraut, one spoon at a time.

  5. 5) Fold paste into kraut & add sweetner. You can use Sorghum, brown sugar, or white sugar. Begin with 1 Tablespoon Sorghum & 1 Tablespoon brown sugar for authentic flavor. Add more to your taste.

  6. Serving suggestion: as side dish to Turkey dinner
